Agway made it's appearance in Beaver County in 1987 when Chet and Sherry Whelpley purchased the business and property on Sharon Rd., known at the time as Farm Bureau/True Value Hardware.
The Whelpley's two sons, Chad and Curt, were just 10 and 7 years old at the time. Chet grew up on a dairy farm in central PA, got his Ag-Business Management degree from Penn State in 1973 and began his career in agriculture related retail.
